Covid-19 statistics in Africa ... optimistic or pessimistic?

Coronavirus statistics in Africa ... optimistic or pessimistic?

Today the world is witnessing a qualitative leap due to the Coronavirus. The country hardly abandoned it. Even Africa survived. Africa, which the world has known, is always threatened by epidemics. But contrary to what is expected? The African continent has recorded fewer cases than other continents, according to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Africa (ACDC) that infections caused by the Corona Virus (Covid-19) in Africa exceeded only 10,000 cases, while the deaths amounted to more than 500 deaths.

There are fears among some that Africa will turn into a pandemic, with what appears to be a decline in daily infections in other regions of the world.

When studying the average daily increase in the number of people infected with Covid-19 virus worldwide, it appears that Africa is controlling the spread of the disease better than the United States and Europe so far.

But when comparing Africa with Asia, where it appears that some countries have reduced the daily increase in the number of new cases relatively quickly, the comparison will not be in Africa’s favor.

    • How do governments interact with the virus in ways that respect rights?
Many governments have moved quickly to stop the spread of the virus by preventing travel - Sudan began examining travelers entering the country in late January. Some countries offer customized health services. In Lagos State, Nigeria, the government provides household goods including food and cleaning products such as soap to low-income communities and institutions.

Governments should be aware of the limited resources available to people in low economic situations or living in slums, where going out for a few days might be like the difference between starvation and life. Government intervention to provide these services is encouraging.

One of the things we notice is that due to travel restrictions, wealthy senior government officials can no longer travel abroad to obtain medical care. This may press to improve the country's health infrastructure.
